DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS 1 APRIL 2024

What is the objective?

OHCHR invites States and other stakeholders to submit relevant information, notably about intersectional discrimination against Africans and people of African descent and advancing racial justice and equality through an intersectional approach, including with regard to:

  • multiple, intersecting and compounding manifestations of systemic racism as experienced by different groups of Africans and people of African descent, in connection with sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, nationality, migration status, minority status, disability, religion, socio-economic and other status;
  • root causes and drivers of intersectional discrimination against Africans and people of African descent, including relating to stereotypes and other structural, institutional and historical dimensions;
  • actions by States and others to advance racial justice and equality through an intersectional approach, including in relation to:
    • the design, implementation and evaluation of laws, policies, programmes, action plans, special measures, processes and other initiatives relating to health, education, employment, housing, law enforcement and the criminal justice system, and other sectors;
    • efforts to enhance participation of Africans and people of African descent in public affairs; and
    • measures to contribute to accountability and redress, including for the legacies of enslavement and colonialism.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS 5 APRIL 2024

What is the objective?

To inform the preparation of the visit of the Expert Mechanism to Italy, which will take place from 2 to 10 May 2024, and its subsequent report.

 

Key questions and types of input/comments sought:

The Expert Mechanism invites all interested individuals and organizations, notably Africans and people of African descent and their organizations, to send information, including with regard to:

  • Recent analytical reports or surveys on structural and institutional racism faced by Africans and people of African descent.
  • Information on relevant legislation, policies, programmes, and practices concerning law enforcement, the criminal justice system and Africans and people of African descent.
  • Information on alleged excessive use of force and other human rights violations against Africans and people of African descent by law enforcement officials or the criminal justice system, including with regard to patterns, policies, processes and specific incidents.
  • Information regarding judicial action, accountability and redress measures taken in response to such allegations.
  • Information on good practices and lessons learned in relation to laws, policies and practices seeking to address systemic racism in the context of law enforcement and the justice system.
  • Priority issues, concerns and situations that warrant the Expert Mechanism’s attention during its visit.
  • Suggestions of issues to examine and related places to visit.
  • Suggestions of government officials and civil society actors to meet in the different regions.
