In the last 15 years, every 9 days, a massacre was committed during police operations in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
After members of the research team saw young people handing over their cell phones to police officers during raids, a question on this subject was included in the questionnaire. Many reports were heard of police officers using personal messages as a way of checking whether or not they were involved in drug trafficking.
The increased insecurity and unpredictability of armed conflicts drove away the clientele that used to access the vigorous local commerce. People who came from other neighborhoods disappeared.
The goal is to produce data about the government’s actions and receive and forward complaints from residents about possible abuses by police officers in the program.
The survey was conducted in Jacarezinho. Among those heard by the research, 63% have already said that they saw police officers of the program stealing or damaging items from residents’ houses or were themselves victims of this type of action.
A survey conducted with residents of Jacarezinho, in the northern zone of Rio de Janeiro, about the five months of the Integrated City program, indicated that the majority of respondents feel more insecure, report police raids on residences, and have witnessed or have been victims of aggression by State agents.

João Pedro was 14 years old and had his whole life ahead of him. Until May 18, 2020, when he was killed after his home was raided by police officers participating in a joint operation at the Complexo do Salgueiro, in São Gonçalo, in the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area, between the Civil and Federal Police.

Rômulo uses his social networks to talk about the theme, focused on the black population. In Colombia, Brazil, the United States and Trinidad and Tobago, women and girls of African descent living in racialized and militarized communities, mothers, people who identify as LBTQI+, particularly trans women involved in sex work, and women defenders and community leaders, experience disproportionate amounts of social alienation and neglect and state-sponsored violence that usually takes the form of police brutality.
