LabJaca is a research laboratory, citizen data generation and construction of narratives about favelas and peripheries, which seeks to trace actions that represent the real demands of the residents and local institutions.

Instituto lança ‘Observatório Cidade Integrada’ no Jacarezinho

The goal is to produce data about the government’s actions and receive and forward complaints from residents about possible abuses by police officers in the program.

The survey was conducted in Jacarezinho. Among those heard by the research, 63% have already said that they saw police officers of the program stealing or damaging items from residents’ houses or were themselves victims of this type of action.

A survey conducted with residents of Jacarezinho, in the northern zone of Rio de Janeiro, about the five months of the Integrated City program, indicated that the majority of respondents feel more insecure, report police raids on residences, and have witnessed or have been victims of aggression by State agents.

The Impact of Police Violence on the Right to Mental Health of People of African Descent Living in Favelas in Brazil - Sociedade Maranhense de Direitos Humanos (Brazil):

The goal of Sociedade Maranhense de Direitos Humanos (SMDH) is to evaluate the implementation and efficiency of custody hearings for the reduction of pre-trial detention in Maranhão, aiming at the perception of the degree of selectivity of violence and of the justice system, which relates social class, race/color and territory.

The campaign Afrodescendants Resisting Police Violence: the impact of militarized policing on the mental health of the black population living in Brazil’s favelas seeks to promote visibility for systematic human rights violations (especially the human right to mental health) perpetuated against black populations living in marginalized areas of Brazilian cities, such as the favelas.

During the interview he talked about the role and duty of the State in the face of extreme violence in the communities, talked about relationships and affections, and presented how psychology works on the emotional side of the black population.
