In the last 15 years, every 9 days, a massacre was committed during police operations in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

Violação do direito à privacidade

After members of the research team saw young people handing over their cell phones to police officers during raids, a question on this subject was included in the questionnaire. Many reports were heard of police officers using personal messages as a way of checking whether or not they were involved in drug trafficking.

Jacarezinho poorest since Cidade Integrada started

The increased insecurity and unpredictability of armed conflicts drove away the clientele that used to access the vigorous local commerce. People who came from other neighborhoods disappeared.

The goal of Sociedade Maranhense de Direitos Humanos (SMDH) is to evaluate the implementation and efficiency of custody hearings for the reduction of pre-trial detention in Maranhão, aiming at the perception of the degree of selectivity of violence and of the justice system, which relates social class, race/color and territory.

The campaign Afrodescendants Resisting Police Violence: the impact of militarized policing on the mental health of the black population living in Brazil’s favelas seeks to promote visibility for systematic human rights violations (especially the human right to mental health) perpetuated against black populations living in marginalized areas of Brazilian cities, such as the favelas.

A cry for justice for LGBTIQ+ Afro-descendants who have been victims of police violence

We demand the State to protect the lives of LGBTIQ+ people in Colombia!

Violence against black women is a transnational problem

In Colombia, Brazil, the United States and Trinidad and Tobago, women and girls of African descent living in racialized and militarized communities, mothers, people who identify as LBTQI+, particularly trans women involved in sex work, and women defenders and community leaders, experience disproportionate amounts of social alienation and neglect and state-sponsored violence that usually takes the form of police brutality.
